What is an avatar?

In the virtual world, an avatar is a computer generated representation of yourself.  These days with the technologies available on the net, avatars may be animated with voices.  What you may not know about the word “avatar” is that is comes from the Sanskrit word “Avatara.”  This term is usually used in Hindu texts to imply the incarnation or the descent from God.  For example, Lord Krishna is the eighth avatar of Vishnu.
