Does BBC actually play pranks on April Fool’s Day?
Yes, BBC has pulled several pranks on this day of tomfoolery. In fact, there’s a whole page of pranks pulled by BBC on this site: TheFoolsDay.com. You can also find pranks, gifts, or even food on this site. Here are three interesting pranks in the past that this British broadcaster has pulled.
1957–The television show Panorama showed Swish peasants harvesting spaghetti from trees. Viewers were fooled and questioned how the peasants could grow spaghetti like that!
1965–BBC aired an interview from a professor highlighting a “smell-0-vision” device that allowed you to smell aromas from your TV screen. People called in testifying that they had indeed been able to smell coffee and roses from their TVs!
1975–Musendrophilus were reported to being discovered in the Shepa Islands in the Pacific Ocean. This new species was a night-singing tree mice. The broadcast even used fake sounds to convince its viewers of this new species.
I wonder if they will be doing anything today…? You can check here: http://www.bbc.co/uk

This report was aired on 1 april 2008, i saw it and as i was 13 i really believed the stuff, i thought something like hybridisation or something would be behind this, and a few days later, i even answered my teacher’s questions by saying “yep.. Ma’am Penguins can fly!” That was so embarrasing! My teacher went up laughing the whole day!
