Do you know of any online resources to help explain the Moon’s cycles?
Every month the moon goes through 8 phases:
Looking at the 8 individual phases helps to understand what happens:
These are the following 8 phases of the Moon: New Moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full Moon, Waning Gibbous, Last Quarter, and Waning Crescent.
Watching a fast forward movie of the 8 phases that occur also helps:
Finally, this is a nifty moon phases application to experiment with made by 8th grade students at Peabody School.
Last but not least, don’t forget to read these two wonderful books while studying the phases of the Moon:
Thank you for finding this information! We really like learning about the phases of the Moon.

@Class 1-S I’m so glad you’re enjoying your Moon research! It is fascinating isn’t it. Did any of you see the Moon as a crescent last night?
Some of us saw the Moon last night and some of us saw it in the morning. It is a Waning Crescent Moon right now. On Friday, it is supposed to be a New Moon so we won’t be able to see it.
Thanks, again! We will see you in the library!
Love,
Class 1-S
