There are new books in the library?! Which ones do you want to read?
We just added about 40 new books to the HKIS HS Library. There are a few that have really caught my eye.
For example, this series about witches called Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins looks intriguing. And by the way, there’s quite a following on Tumblr when you look up the hashtag #hexhall.
Then after reading and enjoying Skinny by Donna Cooner, I’d really like to read 45 pounds (more or less) by K.A. Barson. Ann has a goal: she wants to lose 45 pounds in 10 weeks by her aunt’s wedding in which she will be a bridesmaid.
I loved reading the classic A Wrinkle in Time on various occasions–either as a young reader or as a teacher. We now have a graphic version by Hope Larson that I’m keen to read.
Finally, I’m usually not much of a nonfiction reader, yet there are three titles that have caught my eye. First, The End of Your Life Book Club by Will Schwalbe looks so interesting. During a mother’s last two years of life with cancer, the son and mother carry on conversations about various books–from serious to fun. The main point is the power of books. This sounds like a must read for any lover of books–in particular a librarian.
I am not sure if I would end up being more nervous after reading Monkey Mind by Daniel Smith, but this book looks like it would definitely make me think. It’s a memoir about someone who does indeed have anxiety issues.
I think I remember seeing Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo in Costco which is a statement of a book’s popularity. It’s for sure been a best seller ranking #1 on the New York Time’s list. The story is of a four year old interpretation of his visit to Heaven and back during an appendectomy. Whether or not it’s true, it sounds like a story I want to believe in.
